AX Paris A/W 2013 / London Burlesque party

Last week I was lucky enough to receive an invite from the lovely people at E-tail PR for their AX Paris party at the Proud Cabaret in London.

The vibe was 1920's burlesque and it didn't disappoint, the decor was beautiful - the cocktails were flowing (which we were greeted with as soon as we walked through the door ;) ), the canapes were canape-ing (which I didn't get to try!) and of course, the bloggers were snapping!

This guy above was pretty much the host of the show for the night with an occasional sing-song in which he would change the lyrics so they were a bit naughty. He really was hilarious and made the night just that little bit more great! After a few drinks and greetings, the show kicked off with a few acts including some burlesque, a belly dancer and even a fire eater - so of course, this was an awesome start to everything. As a complete burlesque virgin I had the BEST time!

After the acts, the night moved on to what we were really there for (other than to get pissed of course...) - AX Paris's A/W. The catwalk was modeled by some of our very own favourite bloggers including one of my top 3, the lovely Amy from Amy Valentine who I luckily got to hang out with. Check me out, shy old me hanging out with some cool kids! Anyway, the collection was beautiful, particularly for the party season - you can expect a ton of sparkles ready for December in the form of beautiful dresses, and the colours were lovely, there were some mermaid shades in there aswell as your typical can't-live-without LBD's. One word for the AX Paris this season? Ultra-glam. Not only that, the amazing Jade Thompson (winner of BINTM!) rocked up to present the new TV ads!

After seeing all the beautiful clothes that will obviously be finding a spot in my wardrobe this season, more acts followed to complete the night (and more cocktails...) in the form of even more nakedness!

And of course, I cannot forget one major part of the night for a foodie like me, the cookies... Oh. My. God. They were so delicious. If you want a chance to try one, you may be very lucky as E-tail PR are doing a goodie bag giveaway from the night, and there was a cheeky one in mine, so head on over to their twitter @etailpr or find them on Facebook to try and bag yourself one!

And finally, I wanna give a massive shout-out to some of my new lovely blogger friends who made the final touches to a perfect night (Olivia, Courtney, Kavita, Amy, Rosie, Kayla and Kate) and to Laura, my uni friend and blogger friend for saving me since dimwit over here left her SD card at home...

Thank you so much to E-tail PR and AX Paris and make sure to invite me next time! You can shop A/W trends now at http://www.axparis.com/

OUTFIT OF THE DAY: The storm

If you're a fellow Englishman, you'll be aware of the damn storm that's messing up everyone's day today. Not only did it awake me at 5am by making me think my window was about to come off, but now I can't make the first day of my internship which i'm pretty gutted about! National Rail said there would be a specific service running, so I trotted along to the station in this lovely gusty weather, stood in the ticket queue for twenty minutes and then the staff decided to announce that actually, all of the trains were going to be cancelled.... Honestly, you wouldn't get this in Yorkshire - sorry London, but you're a little over dramatic!
The only good thing about having to take the day off is that I get to sit and have a Buffy the Vampire Slayer marathon and design all day in my PJs and slipper socks whilst snuggling in my bed... Maybe i'll get some hot chocolate to accompany this amazing idea....
Here's what I was going to wear for my first day as a Cagecity-er... Minus the hat, it was breezy out:

LANCOME BEAUTY GOODIES - Perfect for Christmas?

So, i've been a jammy get this week and had a pretty lucky day on Monday. If you follow Dave Lackie on twitter (beauty editor) not only will you learn something new beauty-wise everyday, but you'll have also noticed that he does the BEST giveaways EVER. If you wanna see this for yourself follow @davelackie (he has a few running alongside each other right now!). Anyway, last week he was working with Lancome and giveaway these amazing bundles every day, and I was lucky enough to be announced as a winner on Monday (after telling my friend all day how much I needed to win this competition!). He shipped it alllllll the way from Canada and it arrived within two days which I was completely amazed by.
I haven't had a chance to try out every product yet, but the ones I have tried are now firmly in my daily skincare routine - and the make up is just to die for!

L-R : Renergie Lift Multi-Action (lifting and firming cream), High potency daily moisturizing cream, Absolute replenishing cream

The lifting and firming cream has gave itself a firm spot in my skincare routine already, after just two days. The cream is really thick and goes a long way (which I love about it!) and it feels super silky and lovely on application, and it really leaves a nice soft finish to your skin. It's too soon to tell about the 'lifting and firming', and i'm only 20, so I probably won't see massive changes.

The high potency daily moisturizing cream is another awesome product here. I have oily skin so i'm not one to moisturize too often, but this is so light and fluffy that I don't think it would increase my oiliness at all, and so far it hasn't. Currently stroking my soft-as-a-baby's-bottom face post-application.

I'm yet to use the replenishing cream, but if the reviews are anything to go by, then it looks like this is one amazing product. All i've seen and heard is 'plumping', 'healthy skin', 'can't live without it' and for the price tag, I should hope so! - Plus it smells INCREDIBLE.

I was mega excited to try this mini palette. I gave myself a lovely smokey eye using the bronze-brown, the apricot-gold and the matte brown next to the golden shade and I loved it. In all honesty, I really think these are even more pigmented than Mac's eyeshadows (and this is coming for a serious Mac lover!). The only slight disappointment with this was that the bronzey/brown shade comes out super dark on me which was a surprise, but now I know, it will be so much easier to work with. I do think that close to £40 is super expensive for this kind of thing, but the quality is just so amazing, that if you were to fork out you'd soon forget about that hole in your purse!

If you're interested in any swatches of this then please let me know in the comments and i'll do another post.

The swatch above is the first time i've used this product, I haven't tried it on my lips yet but I think just from the swatch the colour is great with my skin tone. I'm not usually one for a shimmer (and I must admit I didn't expect it) but i'm pretty excited to wear it for the first time. It does seem pretty sure though, which is another new for me (i'm definitely one for deep, bold shades) but I think it will be really pretty on and i'm trying to get into some nude shades. The peach pink tones are just beautiful!

Now this product is the holy grail of everything. It may say 'dark spot corrector' but it is so much more. I've been using this for two days, and i'm a sufferer of redness around my nose area and what d'ya know? I have even skin right now. I would definitely recommend visiting a Lancome counter and getting a 7-day sample just to see for yourself because it really is nice. It feels quite soothing post-application aswell. Everytime I apply I sit and smile about how great my face feels. I really do believe it's an 'airbrush in a bottle' type product and i'll be asking Santa for another bottle so I can be sure to never run out!
One little squirt will cover your whole face (that little pea right there sorted me out!)
If you have uneven skin tone, dark spots, scarring or just any form of blemishes I would really recommend this product. It's a whopping £70, but as I say, it's a pretty awesome miracle worker!

I'm ridiculously happy to have won this, and i've been really lucky to try some incredible high end products that I wouldn't usually be able to afford. Some of these are definitely going on my Christmas list - i'm now a Lancome lover!

OUTFIT OF THE DAY: Opportunities

The greatest opportunity came to me today in the form of an interview which i've been really nervous about for the past two days. Of course I had the old fashion-girl problems of 'what to wear', but that kind of got in the way of the whole 'what do I say?'... See, you'd think I was this out-going, sociable person, which I am, but put me in an interview situation, i'm a shy little lamb who is lost for words... It's not as drastic as it sounds, I manage to get words out fine, but i'm one of those people who come out at the end and kick myself for not saying the right thing. For example, you're asked a question and you're like 'shit, what do I say?' and you just say what ever comes to mind, then ten minutes later you really think about it and realise oh, this is what I should have said.
But, i'm not gonna let this feeling take over me and i'm just gonna hope for the best because it's something that I reeeeally want (more than chocolate).
One thing I am thinking right now though is that I wish I never wore these bloomin' shoes... They have ripped my poor, hard working feet to shreds, so designing in bed for the day it is! :(

OUTFIT OF THE DAY: AS IF.

Instead of doing work, of course, i'm procrastinating... I have a review in 50 minutes so I probably shouldn't be blogging right now, but i've been working non-stop (even went to uni for the second sunday in a row the other day) so I think I deserve a little rest.

On the way to the Rihanna for River Island launch party last month, we cut through Primark to get there as it was a bit chilly, and even though I was a Primark 'virgin', I spotted this fluffy crop top in the corner of my eye that just called my name. I'd seen a few around and they just reminded me of Cher from one of my favourite movies 'Clueless' - and i'm a sucker for anything 90s, so I went back last week whilst fabric shopping and picked one up. I don't regret it, you have no idea how warm and fluffy this baby is! And even though the high neck line doesn't suit me, it definitely is keeping me warm right now in my freezing cold student house. But the best part about it is that it killed the hatred for Primark I previous had and made me think twice about the 'Primark quality is crap' line that I always used (and it was only £10 wooo!)

MAC DIVA - the perfect autumn/winter red?

I've been very lucky this time with my Mac purchase as it turns out that my friend gets discount (jammy cow, I know!), so she treat me to the lovelllly shade 'Diva' that i've had my eye on for a while now since a #bbloggers chat where it was recommended to me... The first thing I did was google the swatches and I fell in love instantly. It's the shade i've been looking for for a long time - the perfect deep red. I recall doing a little stupid dance anyway after seeing the swatches...

mac diva review

The photos above haven't been edited (because why would I do that when you need to see the true colour?), so please mind my dingy room. I would have loved to have taken the photo before I used it, but I was far too excited to wait, so sorry about that too...

'Diva' is a matte lipstick with quite the staying power. After applying, I had my lunch and stuff and there was no need for any touch ups which I was very impressed with, especially with it being a deep shade.  It applies really nicely as well which was also a relief - I have a few deep lipsticks and a red colour from Topshop and they're all absolute pains to apply, but the difference here is that Mac, as usual, have the loveliest, creamiest consistencies, so i've had no problems at all in that department.

With flash

mac diva review
Without flash... On a slow shutter speed (hence the blurriness -.-)

I don't think the flash is giving you the best perception of the shade, I think it's better portrayed in the 'without flash' image, personally - so as you can see it's a gorgeous vampy shade and I think it would pretty much suit anybody. It's quite flattering, I feel good wearing it anyway if that counts?
So, that's all for my crazy rambling about 'Diva' and as you can probably tell, I recommend it! What do you think of it?

Outfit of the day - All black everythang

London is officially freezing now. It's glove/scarf/coat/toasty socks weather already... And i'm still waiting for a coat to arrive that I ordered last month, so for the time being I will just be cold and blue.
I'm finding it super hard this season to resist everything (as you can probably tell from my last post - the Missguided wishlist) - I just love A/W fashion, i'm especially loving everything fluffy this winter - so much so that when I was in central (London) yesterday, I popped into Primark with a friend (this is a first for me!) and picked up a real cute fluffy top that I will be showing you sometime soon.. It's my second ever Primark purchase, the last one being around 4 years ago and I was so pleased to see that the quality has improved in that time i've been avoiding them...
I'm in full swing at uni now so i've finally learned to manage my time and get into a little blogging routine, but i'm still working on improving my images so bear with me. It's so hard finding someone who isn't busy to take my photos, and my uni room is super dingy which means my photos aren't coming out very HQ like you'd expect from an SLR (yep, you wouldn't believe it would you?!)
Here's an outfit from this week that I wore to uni (before the bitterness swept in!)

MISSGUIDED A/W 2013 wishlist

If you're a regular reader, you'll know my true love for Missguided. Everyday I find myself in their new-in section admiring everything they have for sale but due to a students budget, I can't indulge too much! Sad times!
Because I love so much stuff I thought i'd share it will you all and show you all the autumn amazingness they have to offer right now. One up-side to this situation is that it's my birthday next month, so when people ask what I want, it's definitely a Missguided voucher - or maybe they can just see my wishlist here and buy me things *that would be a dream come true right now*

Outfit of the day: Glitter vs pink hair

I'm starting to get used to my new pink hair now however dressing has never been more difficult! I'm trying not to be so matchy matchy so I have quite the challenge on my hands here - especially since most of my wardrobe is pink and the last thing I wanna do is resemble a marshmallow. I'm still not sure if this is gonna be a regular thing, so by all means let me know your thoughts.
Coincidence or not, since dying my hair pink i've became a real old dedicated student, I actually spent a few hours in the LIBRARY yesterday (a Sunday!!) reading BOOKS and doing WORK... Can you believe it? If you know me in real life you'll definitely be surprised, and for those of you who don't, just call me last minute Laura - that's the kinda student I used to be!
I also tried a little something different with my photos today in a hope that they will look better, so let me know if you prefer them shot this way or the old white wall way too :) and don't mind the not-so-lovely skirting boards in my student house... I know, they're an eye sore.

OUTFIT OF THE DAY: Pink hair / We're going through changes

In true Fashion lover style, I'm pulling out allllll of the shades of black in my wardrobe ready to don on a daily basis now winter is coming up, so today's outfit is one of those all-black-everythang ones - except for my hair... You'd think I have things to do, which I do.... I just procrastinate well, so me being my bored self decided that dying my hair pink would be an amazing idea.... I did have a slight mental break down when it turned out to be not-so-pastel pink and freaked out majorly to my friend demanding my blonde locks back, but hey-ho, here I am today in all my pink headed glory. And how cool is this eagle necklace that Distressed UK gifted me with? I'm so flattered that they sent me it as i've loved it for so long, so it's real cute of them! And now i'm going to treck over to the super market and buy the entire bakery section. Happy Saturday!

OUTFIT OF THE DAY: The sun don't shine

It's officially freezing. It's weird 'cause I just popped back to Yorkshire for a few days, and it was t-shirt weather... I hit London, and it was fricking freezing - bout time the North got some warmth though to be fair! And no more avoiding the Autumn flu, 'cause I sure as hell woke up with that today.
I'm kind of enjoying wearing jackets again, I feel like they complete the outfit - and the over the knee socks/stockings that you'll be seeing a lot of on me because they're my autumn/winter go to!
I've been absolutely dying to wear this dress for the entire of 2013, it's one of my favourites and used to look so good on me but life happened and I hit puberty and the age of 20 and grew some boobs and it now refuses to zip up properly... Me being me, has finally decided to whip it out as NO ONE WILL EVER KNOW because i'll be wearing a jacket ;) i'm a tramp I know but it's so cutttte! And I WILL lose these boobs one day! (You're probably thinking 'what boobs?' and you'd be right to, but to a flat chested gal like me, anything will do!)
For once i'm not dressed like a slob for uni today, I don't know what came over me........
